Forest City International School (located in Forest City, on the outskirts of Gelang Patah, Johor, Malaysia) was established in 2018 as an international school serving students from early childhood to age 18, situated on a lush green island. The school follows an American-style K-12 curriculum and offers Advanced Placement (AP) courses at the high school level, providing education focused on global university preparation. Additionally, inquiry-based and project-based learning with small class sizes is maintained across all grade levels, offering students diverse growth paths in academics, arts, sports, and technology to foster global perspectives and independence. The campus also features the “Golf Centre of Excellence,” a specialized golf training facility offering three levels (Beginner, Development, Elite) for students from beginners to experienced players, with PGA-level directors providing instruction combining theory and practice.

Course Programs

Kindergarten

For children ages 3-5, the environment is designed to emphasize learning and growth during early childhood. The curriculum incorporates Italy’s Reggio Emilia inquiry-based approach, emphasizing learning where children “ask questions, experience, and think for themselves.” While English is the primary language, home language experiences are respected as children develop language, numeracy, social skills, and inquiry abilities in a balanced way. Through play-based learning, project-based activities, and specialized subjects (physical education, art, music), children are supported in acquiring foundational skills while enjoying the learning process.

For students ages 6-11 (Grades 1-6), the program builds strong foundations in reading, writing, and mathematics while expanding student interests through learning in science, art, engineering, physical education, and more. Each day begins with a “Morning Meeting” where students set learning goals with their homeroom teacher, share news, and develop social and learning skills. Cross-curricular projects (e.g., science + engineering + math) are incorporated, focusing on real-world applications. While English is the primary language, language programs are available for students to learn Mandarin or Malay as a mother tongue or second language, with Spanish available from Grade 5.

Secondary School

Secondary School

In Upper School (Grades 7-12, ages 12-18), based on the American curriculum, Grades 7-8 focus on building foundational skills, critical thinking, and global perspectives, while Grades 9-12 offer regular programs and advanced Advanced Placement (AP) programs. The school is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC), adhering to international educational standards. Students are prepared for universities and further education worldwide through approaches that incorporate problem-solving, presentations, and research-based learning.
